Susie Wheeler, (They Don't Shoot Horses) a short, slim sixty-two years old widow has turned the family Hereford ranch over to her son and daughter-in-law, and now gentles and retrains abused and neglected horses. Her beloved pet and guard ‘dog’, Babe came to her as an emaciated calf but grew into a large black bull with a questionable pedigree.  Being of Scots-Irish decedents’, Susie values her independence and has a definite view of right and wrong with a naturally aggressive response to wrongs.
